DAMATURU, Nigeria – The Yobe State Police Command confirmed on Saturday, June 10, 2023, the arrest of a local chieftain and his two sons following their alleged involvement in the brutal murder of a villager, Goni Waje, in Dako Kangarwa village, Yunusari Local Government Area.
Dungus Abdulkarim, the Command’s spokesman, identified the suspects as Jalomi, Ciroma, and their father Bulama in a statement issued in Damaturu.
According to Abdulkarim, the lethal altercation, which took place on June 7, 2023, allegedly began after the suspects accused Waje of engaging in an extramarital affair with Bulama’s wife.
“According to the eyewitness account, the deceased was attacked with a cutlass and subsequently burned to death by the duo of Alhaji Jalomi and Ciroma.
As narrated, the incident began as a fight that led to the deceased using a knife to inflict injury on the father of the suspects,” Abdulkarim explained.
In the heat of the confrontation, Bulama is said to have instructed his sons to pursue Waje, resulting in the horrifying event.
Abdulkarim further disclosed that the three suspects handed themselves over to the Yunusari Divisional Police Station following the incident.
“While Bulama was finding ways to treat himself from the wound, he had no option than to involve the Police. In the process of the investigation, the victim surfaced as accused, which led to his arrest at the Yunusari Police Division. Subsequently, the perpetrators of the heinous offense reported themselves to the Yunusari Division after the arrest of their father,” the police spokesperson elaborated.
The three suspects have been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation.
DSP Abdulkarim confirmed that Waje’s remains had been deposited at the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu.
