A soldier attached to the headquarters of Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai, in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, alongside two others, has been arrested over criminal conspiracy, burglary, and armed robbery.
The state police command’s Public Relations Officers Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement made available to journalists on Friday, January 28, 2022, noted that the suspects, Hassan Abdulhafiz, a 22-year-old soldier; Mustapha Abubakar, 19, and Samaila Salmanu, 25, were arrested in Damaturu and Darazo in Bauchi State respectively after the police received a distress call.
“On 22/01/2022 at about 2230hrs the suspects invaded the resident of one Haj. Aisha Usman of Sabon-Pegi-ward with deadly weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, succeeded in inflicting serious injuries on the victim and her son, Ahmed Umar, aged 17 years, after tying them up with DStv cable wire.
“The culprits carted away with the following items belonging to the victim at gunpoint: N250,000:00; 307 Peugeot saloon car, as well as a GSM handset”, he said.
According to him, the three suspects have since confessed to the crime and will be prosecuted after the investigation.
He noted that items recovered from the suspected criminals include: one AK-47 rifle; 28 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition; two jack knives; DStv cable; one 307 Peugeot car with registration number NSR 672 DD; N76,000 in cash and a GSM handset.
“Therefore, The Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna Garba, PSC, urged the general public to be security-conscious and report all suspicious persons or movements to the nearest police station for necessary action.
“He, however, appealed to members of the public to volunteer credible information to the Police to provide a safe and secured society where lawful and genuine business thrives”, ASP Abdulkarim added.
