A 32-year-old trader, Shakirat Kehinde, has approached a Customary Court sitting in Ikorodu, Lagos State, for a dissolution of her marriage to 40-year-old Salau Kehinde, because he often battered her each time she refuses to have sex with him at their resident of 9, Fatai Oloko Street, Haruna, Ikorodu area of the state.
The 10-year-old union which was blessed with two children is on the brink of collapse as the woman disclosed that her life is endangered after her husband threatened to bath her with hot water for daring to deny him his conjugal rights.
Narrating her ordeal at the court, Mrs Kehinde said: My husband beats me whenever I returned from work. He would beat me when I told him I was too tired to have sex, or for any flimsy excuse. I want this court to dissolve our marriage and grant me custody of our children.”
Her husband on his part, admitted to beating his wife whenever she denied him of sex and also each time she came home late.
He said: “Yes, I do beat her whenever she denied me of sex but I did not intend to pour the hot water on her. I merely boiled the water so I could threaten her with it. I had no intention of bathing her in the water.
“She refuses to cook for me when she is pregnant. She also said I should look for another wife.”
However, Mr Kehinde stated that he was willing to take her back if she wants to stay with him, promising that he would desist from beating or threatening her.
Following his stance, the president of the court, Olu Adebiyi, adjourned the matter to Thursday, September 13, 2015 for possible reconciliation of the troubled couple.
