Yemi Fawaz, a popular former professional model, has died at 64 after losing a battle with cancer.
According to sources familiar with the development, Ms. Fawaz died on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at New York Lenox Hill Hospital.
The Guardian reports that she suffered from colon cancer. She also had a hole in heart and her kidneys had begun to fail in the last months of her life.
The late Fawaz started her modeling career and became one of the top Nigerian models in the late 70s.
She established a modeling school in the country before she left in Nigeria in 1997 and didn’t return until 2016.
She is survived by her 33-year-old daughter.
