‘Yahoo’ Fraudster Murders Girlfriend For Withholding Criminal Proceeds (PICTURED)

A 27-year-old suspected internet fraudster, otherwise known as Yahoo boy, Obeta John, has allegedly killed his girlfriend, Idowu Buhari over claims that she refused to remit to him, a proceed of fraud paid into the girl’s account by a victim.

The victim, an HND 1 student of Mass Communication, Gateway Polytechnic Saapade, Ogun State, was reportedly beaten to death by the suspect.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Ogun State police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect, was arrested on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, following a distress call received at the Ode-Remo divisional headquarters.

The police were informed that the suspect, a resident at 3, Mojubade Compound, Eredu Ishara, locked his door and started beating the girl, hitting her head against the wall.

Efforts by neighbours to persuade him to open the door did not succeed, Daily Post learnt.

Acting on the distress call, Oyeyemi said the DPO of Ode-Remo division, CSP Fasogbon Olayemi, had quickly led his officers to the scene, “where they met the victim in the pool of her blood after forcing the door open.”

The police rushed the victim to the State Hospital, Ishara, where she was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.

The suspect said to be an indigene of Enugu State, is presently in police custody.

“On interrogation, the suspect informed the police that he is an internet fraudster and that a certain amount of money from one of his clients was paid into the account of his deceased girlfriend which she refused to relinquish to him,” Oyeyemi explained.

He quoted the suspect as saying that the fight over the said money had eventually led to the death of the girl.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the transfer of the suspect to the State CIID for further investigation and prosecution by the homicide team.

A suspected internet fraudster has reportedly stabbed a commercial sex worker to death in a hotel along Nnebisi road in Asaba, Delta State capital. A male internet fraudster is referred to as a Yahoo boy in Nigeria.

Daily Trust gathered that the suspect, who is now at large, also set the hotel ablaze after killing the deceased.

The incident became known when the thick smoke from the room enveloped the area.

A source said, “We don’t know the man, we don’t know what happened, but the girl is dead now. The man ran away after what he did. We need the police to help arrest the man so he can face the law.”

Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, in a telephone chat with our correspondent, confirmed the report with a promise to provide more details later.

‘Yahoo Boys’ Brutally Murder 40-year-old Man In Ogun

Police in Ogun State have arrested two suspected internet fraudsters popularly known as ‘Yahoo Boys’ who allegedly murdered and mutilated the body of a 40-years-old man, Abdullahi Azeez, for money rituals.

The suspects — Friday Abinya Odeh, 21; and Poso Idowu, 20, were arrested following a report lodged at Owode Egba Divisional Headquarters by the relatives of the victim.

The Police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi on Sunday, October 9, 2022, said that the relatives of the victim told the police that Azeez left his home in Kobape area of Abeokuta on June 8, 2022, and did not return.

Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, immediately directed the anti-kidnapping unit of the state Criminal Investigation Departments to take over “the investigation and unravel the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of the man.”

According to him, the SP Taiwo Opadiran-led team subsequently embarked on a “technical and intelligence-based investigation”, which led them to the hideout of Friday Abinya Odeh in September.

The PPRO said the SIM card of the victim was recovered at the scene. He added that Abinya’s arrest led to the apprehension of his accomplice, Poso Idowu.

“On interrogation, the suspects confessed that they kidnapped the victim on the 8th of June 2022 at Kobape area, at 7:30 pm, from where they forcefully took him to the bush, killed him, and mutilated his body.

“They confessed further that it was one herbalist simply identified as Arab Money who they claimed to have contacted on Facebook that prescribed the ritual for them,” Oyeyemi said.

The police spokesman added that “all efforts to recover the remains of the victim proved abortive as the suspects claimed to have disposed of it.”

He quoted the Commission of Police to have directed that the suspects be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.
