On the wake of crises in the Nigerian Football Federation and FIFA threatening to sanction Nigeria it has been reveal why the Super Eagles boycotted their training sessions at the World Cup in order to get paid their match bonus.
An official of the football federation said that the $130,000 reward does not go for everyone but just a few who took part both in the qualifiers and the tournament.
“It was not a flat rate, but some of the players like Enyeama, who were involved in both the qualifiers as well as the World Cup in Brazil got as much as $130,000.”
The official said that questions were raised on if players who participated in only the qualifiers would be paid. Eagles captain Joseph Yobo said that they had to be included.
So players like John Utaka and Raheem Lawal and others who played few qualifiers would be paid bonuses.
