Workers Day: Nigerian Government Declares May 1 a Public Holiday

Must read

ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian government has declared Monday, May 1, as a public holiday in observance of this year’s Workers Day celebration. The announcement came today from the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.

This decision comes hot on the heels of the Eid-el-Fitr holidays celebrated just last week, making this an exceptional period of commemoration and relaxation for Nigerians.

Aregbesola, in a statement signed on Friday, April 28, 2023, by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Shuaib Belgore, praised Nigerian workers for their tireless efforts and sacrifices.

According to him, the workforce’s dedication and commitment have largely contributed to the nation’s prosperity and the heightened respect Nigeria now commands in the international community.

“There is dignity in labour; we have to have dedication and commitment to the work we do because it is vital to nation-building,” Aregbesola said.
