A new social media campaign dubbed, “Beautiful Girls And Shawarma” which is aimed at promoting healthy eating has emerged which encourages women go topless and take selfies with Shawarma.
Health officials in Russia have unbelievably supported the campaign which has attracted a handful of participants who post the pictures of themselves holding or eating the grilled meat wraps to a page on the country’s social network VKontakte .
A lot of people have no issues with the campaign whereas some others feel it is totally odd.
One of the organisers, Anatoliy Lugovoy said, “This project in the social media world is designed to praise shawarma as an object of cooking art and to praise the beauty of a woman.
“When you join both it makes a powerful piece of web art.”
According to Metro UK, some critics have claimed that the campaign is more about attacking western food and culture propagated by the likes of McDonald’s rather than promoting healthy eating.
In 2012, Russia’s chief sanitary officer Dr Gennady Onishchenko said, “I remind our citizens that burgers…aren’t a sensible dietary choice for the population of Moscow and Russia.
“This is not our food.”
In reaction to the pictures, Maria Antonova said, “Everybody knows that shawarma is unhealthy street food. These people who are posting these pictures are idiots if they think anything else.”
