A 50-year-old woman simply identified as Chioma was beaten to death after she was caught stealing a baby boy in a park while his mother was playing with her other children in Ogugba Park, located in Owerri, Imo State capital.
The incident happened on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 after an angry mob descended on the alleged child thief, stripped her naked and then beat her until she finally gave up.
The angry mob made the woman confess to her crime, but she was beaten to death before police arrived at the scene.
The victim, from Obudi Agwa in Oguta local council area resided in Ogbaku in Mbaitoli local government of the state revealed that she was the only daughter of her parents area of the state.
Police investigations revealed that the mother of the baby boy put him down on the grass while she got busy playing with her other children.
It was reported that the child thief snatched the baby and was apprehended by the angry mob while she was trying to escape with him.
A woman, who witnessed the incident said, “The lady carefully took the little boy from where his mother laid him.”
Another witness said, “The angry mob was not prepared to listen to those that wanted her to be handed over to the police for proper investigation.
“Barely a few minutes after stripping her, the mob descended on her and the rest became history.”
The boy’s mother thanked God for saving her family from the sorrow that would have befallen them if the woman succeeded.
She also used the same medium to express deep appreciation the persons who intervened and stopped the thief from disappearing with her son.
