A woman, Mrs. Bukola Olusegun,in Ado- Ekiti has reportedly set her husband, Abimbola ablaze because he failed to take her out on Valentines day of Saturday, February 14, 2015.
It was learnt that the pair had some misunderstanding earlier before the incident and Mrs Olusegun had maintained that her husband must take her out to celebrate the lover’s day, Vanguard reports stated.
The man reportedly refused to take her out as requested without knowing that his wife had intentionally reserved some fuel which she eventually poured on him after the scuffle in the middle of the night.
Some neighbours intervened and rushed the man to a hospital where his condition is said to be critical.
One of the couple’s neighbour who spoke on the grounds of anonymity said, “It was around mid night that the husband suddenly ran out from their apartment, raising the alarm that his wife had set him ablaze.
“He was burning and was battling with the fire his wife had set on him. We had to rush out to rescue him by quickly getting water and pouring it on him.
“But for the prompt intervention of some of us, he would have been burnt to ashes. He was thereafter rushed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) where he is being treated.
“We also reported the incident at the Ado Central Divisional Police Station from where policemen promptly came to arrest the wife”.
It was disclosed by one of the hospital staff that the woman had target to burn her husband’s penis in her revenge bid as he was badly burnt in that area.
Confirming the incident, the Ekiti State Police spokesperson, Mr Albert Adeyemi,stated that the woman had admitted committing the crime.
