A woman exhibiting symptoms similar to the deadly Ebola virus which has killed 672 since a February outbreak in Africa has been quarantined at an isolation ward in Hong Kong’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
A hospital spokesman said the woman recently returned from a trip from Africa and was undergoing tests to verify the cause of her illness, local media reported.
He said the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) will be notified if it is confirmed the patient is suffering from the Ebola virus.
Health officials worldwide are on alert after a US citizen working for the Liberian government was allowed to board two continental flights in Africa despite exhibiting Ebola symptoms including vomiting and diarrhea. Authorities are desperately trying to track down dozens of fellow passengers which may have come into contact with the now deceased doctor.
The CHP said there is no known cure for the virus which is fatal in 90 percent of human cases.
