A woman was caught on CCTV stealing a wedding ring from a corpse at a funeral home in Odessa Texas.
The unidentified woman was caught by the surveillance cameras at Sunset Funeral Home slipping the ring from the finger of the deceased 88-year-old woman, Lois Hicks on Friday, April 8, 2016.
Hicks’ granddaughter Brooke Vaughan Burns filmed the CCTV footage on her phone, and uploaded it to Facebook.
The video which has garnered over 193,000 views has gone viral and many television stations in Texas have taken it up.
Burns said: “As if my grandmother passing away hasn’t been hard enough on my entire family now some low life thief went into the funeral home yesterday around 5:40pm and stole the ring off her finger.”
The daughter of the deceased woman, Vel McKee, disclosed during an interview with Odessa America Online, that a portion of her mum’s skin was ripped off with the ring.
The unidentified suspect walked into the funeral home and asked to use the bathroom, but instead walked into the room where the corpse was kept.
The number plate of the vehicle with which she escaped was captured by a further CCTV footage.
The family had left Hicks’ ring on her, as a tribute to her husband Gayle who had died three years earlier. McKee and her sister Brenda Vaughan noticed it was gone when they were applying make-up to their grandmother’s body.
