A middle aged woman, Mrs Onyime Ekannem, on Thursday, July 2, 2015 pleaded with an Ojo Customary Court in Lagos State to stop her husband, Ini-Obong, from sending her back to their village because she filed for a divorce from their three-year-old union.
The aggrieved woman said, “I brought my husband, a firefighter with the government to this court because he has become unfaithful to our marriage, he commits adultery without any remorse, and has no care for his family.
“He has even asked his office to eject me from the house in their official quarters, claiming that since I want to divorce him, I must leave his house.”
She told the court how her husband had insisted on taking her back to the village if she is serious with the suit.
According to Vanguard, Ekannem told the court that she did not reply the husband, whom she described as a failed father and husband, and asked the court for protection.
Reacting to the claims, the defendant maintained that he must take his embattled wife back to the village because that was where he performed all the marriage rites including paying her dowry.
“Since she does not want to be my wife, she must go back to the village where I married her from,” Ini-Obong said.
The presiding judge, Chief Joseph Ogunmola, however, urged the defendant to see to upkeep of their two children including paying their school fees and feeding allowance.
He further ordered that the defendant provided an apartment for his wife if he insists on ejecting her from his own house, adding that the family of the woman should to appear before the court to approve the proposal to return her to the village.
The case was adjourned for further mention until Monday, August 3, 2015
