One Ijeoma Nwogbaga has been arrested after she was alleged to have beheaded her husband, Onwe Nwogbaga of Ojiegbe, Nkalika in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Simon Nwunna, a brother-in-law to the victim, who first raised the alarm said: “When I went to visit Mr. Onwe on the fateful day, the door to his sitting room could not open. I knocked and there was no response. When I forced the door open, I saw the lifeless body of my brother-in-law lying in his pool of blood.
“I shouted and called on neighbours. Without hesitation, villagers gathered at the scene asking about his wife who was nowhere to be found.”
The report shows that the victim’s head was all but cut off from his neck with his body severely injured, as blood was said to be gushing from his lifeless body.
An unnamed source suggested that the act must have been carried out in the night when the victim was sleeping and might have been done with the aid of others, adding that the villagers could locate the very spot where Nwogbaga was killed and dragged into the house.
The source said: “We began searching for his wife and went to her family’s place. Suddenly, when she saw us, she took to heels and then everybody pursued her until she was apprehended. The case was quickly reported to the Criminal Investigation Department in Abakaliki for further investigation.”
A police source who pleaded anonymity said the wife had confessed to the crime as investigation was still going on.
