A woman in Jonesboro, AR, has been charged with sex crimes after it was discovered that the father of the baby she had given birth to a month ago was under aged at the time of conception.
Cherrelle Gregory, 26, who delivered her baby last month, is being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a boy who was 15 years old in September of last year. The victim’s name has not been released so far due to legal reasons.
Police reports state that the crime came to light only after the alleged victim’s mother reported Gregory to the authorities after the baby was born and said that her son knew he was the newborn’s father.
Police then proceeded to check her cell phone where they found messages that had been exchanged between the woman and the baby’s father. They also discovered and recovered other messages that had been deleted. The content of the messages were described by the authorities as being of the “explicit” kind.
It was after the discovery of the messages and images that Gregory admitted to the police that she had indeed slept with the under aged boy when he was still 15 years old.
It is thought that this isn’t Gregory’s first crime involving an underage boy, as she is also suspected of having inappropriate relations with another teenage boy in an unrelated case.
Police said that further charges could be brought against the woman after investigators have finished going through the entire content of the cell phone of the second alleged victim as well as Gregory’s.
At the moment, Gregory has been charged on one account each of computer child pornography and sexual assault. Her bond has been set at $5,000.
She has been scheduled to make an appearance in court on July 31st.
