Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, on Thursday, May 12, 2016, said that he will not allow the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) take Edo State back to the days of Egypt.
Oshiomhole spoke on the backdrop of the South South PDP governors meeting held at the Delta Government House on Sunday, May 8, 2016 where the governors said they were strategizing on the possible ways of winning the Edo State election slated for September 2016.
Oshiomhole, who may have flashed his mind back to the days when Lucky Igbinedion held the state ransom between 1999 and 2007, rebuked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for daring to say they were planning to win Edo State.
He said they were dreaming and as such should be allowed to dream until the election is over.
He said there are many state governors who have not been able to pay their workers’ salaries but are dreaming to win elections in Edo State, saying if allowed to contest election Delta, he would defeat Okowa and take over Delta from him.
He said his pedigree, charisma and oratorical power are his strength in government but not money which many governors display but fail to pay the salaries of their workers, leaving them in suffering and untold hardship.
“I will defeat Okowa in Delta State. My pedigree speaks for me. My power is not money but my oratory and pedigree.
“Those who cannot pay salaries want to come and take over Edo State. We pay salaries before the end of the month. The workers are already kicking against them. We will not allow them take Edo back to Egypt,” Oshiomhole said.
