Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has congratulated the president-elect of the United States of America, Donald Trump on his victory at the presidential poll.
Governor Wike, while addressing journalists at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, said that Mr. Trump’s victory was one of the people over the forces of propaganda and lies.
Republican Donald Trump, a billionaire real estate developer and a reality TV show star, defeated a former first lady and secretary of state, Democratic Hillary Clinton in a bitter race, winning over 280 electoral college votes to Clinton’s 228. Clinton won the majority votes but failed to clinch the 270 electoral college votes needed to win the presidency.
Both Clinton and outgoing President Barack Obama have congratulated Trump on his victory.
The Rivers governor said that the people of the United States stood by their beliefs and conviction, despite the concocted opinion polls thrown at them daily by the mainstream media in the country.
According to Wike, the emergence of Donald Trump indicated that the power of the people will always triumph over the forces of propaganda and manipulation .
The governor said that the people of Rivers State can easily relate with Trump’s victory because over the last two years, they have been objects of negative false propaganda, but they stood their ground to vote for People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
He urged the media to redefine its mode of operations to promote the reality on ground instead of attempting to promote vested interests through the publication and broadcast of false propaganda.
