#SoundOff: Maritime University Project: What Oil Producing State Gov’ts Should Do

Must read

Should the Federal Government cancel the Maritime University project, I wish to suggest that the governors of the South South states, and those of the oil producing states like Ondo and Abia, should immediately ask the Federal Government to hands off ownership of the school and cede the ownership to the contributing states who would go on to finish the school.

This is a country without a Maritime University. A country in which its citizens go to Ghana to get trained in Maritime subjects. It is unconscionable that the federal government thinks this is time to to cancel the maritime university project which is in an advanced state.

This school will contribute to labour development of the country. These predominantly PDP states governments should stand up and be counted on this matter. It is a national issue.

Of course, when this is done, 80% of the admissions into the school must be from the contributing states. While 20% would be allocated to international and the other Nigerian states as a ‘good neighbourly’ gesture.

This should be the way to go.

Even if the project is not cancelled, be rest assured that a heartless Amaechi and Buhari will not fund the school.

Please note that the FG cannot request a buy back in this new arrangement. Whatever has been contributed by the FG so far should be its contribution that allows for the 20% open admission.
