A group of Brazilian women had staged a topless protest in different beaches demanding for a change in the law that prohibits them from sun bathing naked in the beaches.
The Brazilian law places a certain sanction which could either be in the form of fine or one year jail term to women who go topless.
Topless In Rio movement is aimed at raising awareness of the prejudice faced by women and highlight cultural issues surrounding the freedom of women’s bodies, according to Mirror UK.
Ana Paula Nogueira, who launched the campaign in 2013 via Facebook, on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 said that the campaign is expected to encourage people to see the act of going topless as something pure and natural.
“We believe that this is something that is going to take a while. It is something cultural, it will take a while to change, but there is no point in us sitting there doing nothing.
“So we try to make it playful, involve people so that this is received in a natural way and not seen as a protest,” she said.
