Nigerian media has been thrown into mourning, yet again, as veteran sports journalist and broadcaster, Dr. Felix Okugbe passes on.
According to sources, Okugbe, passed on in the early hours of Saturday, October 10, 2015.
A long-time colleague and friend, Emmanuel Ohiomokhare confirmed the news of Okugbe’s passing on Facebook Saturday. “Just heard the sad news. Felix Osagie Okugbe is gone! I have admired him since the days of Edo Broadcasting Service. It was an honour to work with him as a colleague in Daar Communications,” he said in his Facebook post.
“We were friends. He had his weaknesses but he was a good man,” Ohiomokhare wrote. “Felix, I celebrate you my brother even in death. I admired your tenacity. Sleep on and Rest in Peace.”

Sources close to his family tell The Trent that Okugbe had been battling with cancer for a long time.
Another colleague, Elamah Ray wrote on Facebook in tribute to Felix Okugbe, “A quintessential sports journalist, a friendly and vivacious personality, a caring friend. That’s how I know you. That’s how I chose to remember you. Rest in the Lord, Bros.”
Until his sad demise, Okugbe was the head of sports at DAAR communications – AIT TV and Raypower FM- and the chief executive and chief international sports correspondent of Mundial Sports International. He is a 1989 graduate of the University of Benin.
Colleagues and fans have been leaving messages of shock, praise, and condolence on his Facebook page. He had uploaded a Facebook video on February 5, 2014 which showed some profound moments of his life and career. You may watch it below.
