Imo State Government on Friday, January 17, 2020, warned contractors to desist from entering into contract agreement with any official of government without reference to current administration.
The government said in a statement signed by the principal secretary to the governor, Theodore Nwonkwo that it has come to its awareness that some government functionaries were awarding and entering into contract agreement without reference to the current Governor Hope Uzodinma.
It reads in part: “The attention of the government of Imo State has been drawn to the fact that some government functionaries are awarding contracts, entering into contract agreements on behalf of the government of Imo State without reference to the newly sworn in governor of the state.”
It said that the government has taken a particular note of some parastatals where the contract letters and agreements are being backdated.
It said, therefore, that the governor has directed the suspension of all award of contracts in the state public service except with due authorization from the office of the governor.
“The government has also suspended all contracts already awarded for which mobilization fees have not been paid bearing in mind that the post no debit order imposed by the state government on all accounts operated by ministries, departments and agencies still is still in place.”
It warned everybody including contractors and stakeholders to, in their interest, adhere to the announcement as the government would not take responsibility for anyone who unwittingly succumbs to the deceit of the functionaries.
Meanwhile, the governor has immediately dissolved all board chairmen and members and directed them to handover to all government documents and properties to the chief executive or most senior public servant in their respective parastatals and agencies before the close of work on Friday, January 17, 2020.
