A court ordered a woman to be gang-raped as punishment after she was seen hanging out with a man.
The 20-year-old woman on of India, was seen walking with a man from another tribe.
Community members arrested both of them and took them to the tribal court in the Birbhum district of West Bengal.
Both the woman and the man, were ordered to pay RS 25,000 each (about $400).
When the woman’s family told the court that they were poor and they don’t have that kind of money, the court ordered the woman to be gang-raped by 12 people.
The woman was taken into a room where she was repeatedly raped over many hours.
When the men were done with her, she was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Her family filed a complaint with the police, and the 12 men and the head of the tribe were arrested for the crime.
