At least five lecturers in the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka Anambra state have been suspended by the school authorities for allegedly aiding students during exam and awarding unnecessary marks to undeserving students during the first semester of 2013/2014 academic session.
The development was confirmed on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 by the institution’s Director of Publications, Mr Emma Ojukwu.
According to Ojukwu, the affected lecturers on Monday, March 2, 2015 received a notice to go on suspension for three months with half salaries pending the final decision of the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee Report.
The suspended lecturers were from the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry and the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering.
The offences include: Failing to submit examination attendance list, collection of money from students for upgrading of results, sharp practices and irregularities in result sheets.
Ojukwu assured that the authorities would soon embark on administrative verification in order to capture other lecturers indulging in similar acts.
The institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, sounded a note of warning to all department heads to desist from collecting money from students during registration.
