The University of Benin (UNIBEN) on Saturday, September 27, 2014 withdrew the appointment of a former Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Andrew Onokerhoraye as professor emeritus.
The withdrawal, they said, was due to his inability to carry out his responsibilities as professor emeritus in the university and alleged failure to attend meetings.
This comes as the institution intensifies search on who succeeds Prof. Osayukin Oshodin as Vice Chancellor.
A statement by the school’s public relations officer, Harris Osarenren, said the decision was taken at the special meeting of the Senate held on Wednesday.
The statement reads: “The action of the Senate, which has been hailed by a cross section of the University of Benin community, was influenced by the facts that he had defaulted in carrying out his responsibilities as professor emeritus. More importantly, Senate observed with dismay that, since his appointment as professor emeritus, he was never present at meetings.”
The UNIBEN Senate had appointed Onokerhoraye as professor emeritus in the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, Faculty of Social Sciences at its meeting, held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010.
