NAN – The Head of the UN Mission in Cote d’Ivoire, Ms Aïchatou Mindaoudou on Tuesday described the post-crisis security situation in the country as “highly commendable”.
Mindaoudou also the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in the mission stated this at a news briefing in Abidjan.
According to her, although there are still pockets of crimes, the security situation across the country remain calm and under control.
“The UN mission is pleased with the improvement in the security situation in the country more than two years after the crisis.
“The security situation across the country is calm and under control in spite of some reported cases of crime,” she said.
The UN official restated the commitment of the mission to support the reform of the Ivorian security with a view to making it more efficient.
She said that the UN mission had continued to show its commitment toward ensuring the return of normalcy after the political violence that rocked Cote d’Ivoire.
Mindaoudou said that the successes achieved in the security sector could only be sustained if the national reconciliation efforts of government were supported by the citizenry.
