A locally made concoction popularly called ‘agbo’ in Yoruba has on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 killed two relatives -Mallam Yinusa Akeju and Mallam Gani Owo from Ologbondoroko and Bofara’s compounds respectively in Adeta Ilorin, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.
It was gathered that the two relatives together with Mallam Orire Saka had gone to the pay a visit to Mallam Orire Azeez who was not around. So, they reportedly asked Azeez’s daughter, identified as Rashhedat to offer them the locally made drink which her father had prepared. Rashhedat allegedly brought the drink to them.
However, events took a new turn after they finished the concoction as Akeju and Owo started complaining of abdominal pains simultaneously. Akeju died later at about 12 am while Owo gave up much later in the day.
Before the sad incident, Akeju, was a staff of Lubcon Nigeria Limited while Owo was a vulcanizer in Kwara state
Furthermore, Saka was later discovered on the floor having difficulties in breathing difficulties. He was immediately rushed to the Ilorin General Hospital for medical treatment and it was learnt that he was recuperating.
Efforts to speak with members of the families proved abortive as they were all mourning the shocking loss of the two young men.
The deceased were on buried at the Muslim cemetery in Ilorin according to Islamic rites. They were survived by wives, children and aged parents. May their souls rest in peace.
