3 Dead, Scores Injured In Twin Suicide Bombing In Maiduguri

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has announced the only the two suicide bombers, a man and a woman, died in the bombing on Sunday morning in Maiduguri.

Three people have been confirmed dead in bomb explosion in Maiduguri, officials in the Borno State capital say.

Earlier in the morning on Sunday, December 11, 2016, two explosions occurred in a crowded area near Maiduguri’s main market. The two blasts reportedly occurred in quick succession at about 8:48 a.m.

Alhaji Danbatta, a member of the of the local vigilante group, Civilian-JTF, involved in the rescue and evacuation of victims of the blasts, confirmed the death to journalists.

“So far, three persons are dead,” Danbatta told Premium Times on phone.

“It was a suicide bomb attack, we are trying to ascertain the actual number of those injured in the hospital now,” he added.

Sources on the ground say as many as 45 people were injured in the attack believed to be the work of the dreaded Islamist terrorist group, Boko Haram.

Victor Isuku, spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, confirmed the attacks incidents saying they occurred near Old NEPA office not far from Monday market.

A similar terrorist bombing occurred in Madagali, Adamawa State, north-east Nigeria. last week, killing 57 people and injuring over 177 other.

Two female suicide bombers carried out the attack in a popular local market.

The latest bombing was the third in Madagali, following attacks by two female suicide bombers on December 28, 2015, at a busy motor park.

Local sources had earlier said two female suicide bombers detonated the bombs at the grains and second hand cloths section of the market, Friday noon, killing dozens of people.

Mr. Muhammed described the attack as a setback to relative peace enjoyed by residents who resumed normal commercial and social activities following successful military operations.
