The Enugu State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal on Friday, August 21, 2015 confirmed the election of Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi after it struck out a petition by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Okey Ezea.
While striking out Ezea’s application, the Justice Kwajafa Hidad-led tribunal said his petition was frivolous, lacked merit and was an abuse of the court process, awarding Governor Ugwuanyi and other respondents in the petition the sum of N150,000 each for damages.
The judge further chastised Ezea for providing only six witnesses out of the 2,958 polling units in the state, who all testified that the election was generally free, fair and peaceful “with minor irregularities which were not sufficient enough to cancel the election.”
