Ahmed Umar, the FRSC Ogun State Sector Commander, has pleaded with motorists to show love to fellow road users through sharing the road responsibly and obeying traffic rules.
Umar urged drivers to maintain “safe speed, avoid night travels and enjoy quality road experience.”
While announcing the commencement of the 2021 Ember Months Special Patrol Operations from December 17, 2021, to January 15, 2022, the Ogun FRSC, said it would wage war against excessive speed; wrongful overtaking; use of phone while driving; overloading, seat belt violation; tyre violation and unlatched vehicle violations.
The traffic regulatory agency also promised to focus on child restraint violations; passengers manifest violation by commercial drivers as well as the use of drugs and alcoholic beverages while driving.
The command told journalists that 1,700 personnel had been deployed to oversee traffic activities on highways like Lagos-Ibadan, Sagamu-Ijebu Ode, Abeokuta-Sagamu, Abeokuta-Ibadan, Abeokuta-Sango-Lagos corridors, and the Ota-Idiroko international corridor.
In his advice, Umar told motorists to be extra careful and ensure their journeys are properly planned, with their vehicles routinely serviced, while paying special attention to construction areas.
He warned that anyone apprehended for flouting traffic rules during the season may be treated as driving dangerously and could be prosecuted.
