LONDON, England – Former President Muhammadu Buhari has recently revealed his reasons for moving from Daura, Katsina State to London.
Buhari cited the need to stay in a quieter environment as the primary reason for his relocation.
The former president’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu, released a statement on Thursday, June 29, 2023, explaining that Buhari initially moved to his hometown Daura with the hope of finding tranquillity.
However, the influx of visitors at all times of the day disrupted his plans for a peaceful stay.
According to the statement, “He chose to go home in Daura hoping to find the type of quiet he wished for himself, but realizing that this was not the case, visitors trooping in morning, day, and night, he moved out to a more distant place.”
Buhari emphasized his desire for rest and conveyed his wishes for the current administration, led by President Bola Tinubu, to have the appropriate environment to fulfill the promises made to the nation.
“It remains his wish that he be allowed to have his needed rest, and for the Tinubu administration to have the right atmosphere to work on the realisation of the promises they made,” the statement reads.
Muhammadu Buhari, who served as the President of Nigeria until the end of his term, has been known for taking a low-profile approach after leaving office.
His decision to leave for London is indicative of his desire to step back from the public eye and allow the new administration to take the forefront.
Post-presidency, Buhari had a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in London, which garnered media attention.
However, the former president is expected to keep a relatively low profile, allowing the current administration to operate without his shadow over them.
This move could signify Buhari’s commitment to a peaceful transition of power and his support for the new administration to address the nation’s challenges.
