Tragic Turmoil in Plateau as Murder of 6 Miners Ignites Fiery Protests

Must read

JOS, Nigeria – Gunmen have struck again in Plateau State, brutally killing six miners in the Turu community of Jos South Local Government Area on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.

This latest attack comes less than two days after a similar incident in which seven people were killed in Wereng and Heipang communities.

In response to the tragic events, youths from various communities have blocked the Jos-Abuja highway in protest, leaving commuters stranded and demanding government action. Dachung Bagos, the lawmaker representing Jos South and Jos East federal constituency, confirmed the killings in a statement released on Wednesday, April 26, 2023.

The statement, signed by his aide Danja Dafwam Yakubu, called on the government to aid his constituents and prevent further attacks on their communities.

Bagos expressed his dismay at the continued violence, questioning how criminals could “perpetrate these heinous acts and vanish into thin air without resistance.”

According to Bagos, the victims included Ishaya David (25), Paul Adamu (23), Bitrus Mancha (43), Davou Boyi (40), Joseph John (39), and Timothy Peter (35). He urged federal security agencies to provide assistance and protection for the citizens, while also calling on the public to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

As the community reels from these senseless acts of violence, the urgent call for government intervention and improved security measures becomes even more crucial. The people of Plateau State demand protection, justice, and a return to peace.
