KOGI, Nigeria – A 39-year-old man, Orishagbemi Sunday, lost his life in Zango Daji, Adavi local government area of Kogi state, after being stabbed while attempting to mediate a disagreement between two men over public urination.
The tragic incident occurred when Sunday tried to resolve the dispute between his friend and another man.
Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the details of the incident, explaining that the conflict began on Friday, April 20, 2023, evening when Sunday’s friend, a vulcanizer at Ganaja junction in Lokoja, decided to urinate near a building belonging to a resident of the area.
This action angered Sadiq, the son of the building’s owner, who confronted the friend in a heated argument.
In an effort to defuse the situation, Sunday intervened to settle the quarrel between his friend and Sadiq. However, the situation escalated, and Sadiq stabbed Sunday with a knife, ultimately causing his death.
In an interview with journalists in Lokoja on Saturday, Aya confirmed that the fatal stabbing took place at Okada Park at Zango Daji. He also stated that the suspect, Sadiq, had been arrested by the police for further investigation.
Aya assured that the suspect would be arraigned in court for prosecution once the investigation into the case is completed.
