BABURA, Nigeria – A 30-year-old photographer, Usman Goga, was found dead in his home in Babura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, Nigeria.
It is believed that he took his own life by hanging himself inside his bedroom.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, has plunged the community into mourning.
Community members expressed their shock at the development, especially considering that Goga had just gotten married a few months ago.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, spokesperson, Adamu Shehu, confirmed the incident to Channels TV on Thursday, June 8, 2023.
According to Shehu, Goga’s wife discovered her husband’s lifeless body hanging from a ceiling fan hook upon returning home from a visit to relatives.
Earlier in the day, Goga had dropped his wife off at a relative’s house, promising to pick her up later in the evening.
When he failed to arrive, she grew concerned and called his phone multiple times without a response.
Unable to enter their home because she didn’t have the keys, Goga’s wife sought help from a commercial motorcyclist to gain access.
Upon entering the house, she found Goga’s motorcycle parked inside, which she thought was unusual.
As she proceeded into the bedroom, she was met with the horrific sight of her husband hanging from the ceiling fan.
“Overwhelmed, she fainted, and it was the motorcyclist who raised the alarm, prompting neighbors to rush to the scene,” Shehu said.
Emergency medical services were summoned, and Goga’s body was untied and rushed to the hospital. Despite efforts by medical professionals, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Goga used a bedside drawer to reach the ceiling to fix the noose.
According to Shehu, close associates of the deceased indicated that Goga suffered from occasional bouts of a mental disorder.
Goga had been married for just four months and was reportedly living a happy life with his wife before the tragic incident.
The community is in shock and grief over the loss of Usman Goga, who was known as a talented photographer and had gained recognition for his works.
