A man has been remanded in prison by a Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting at Ebute-Metta in Lagos for allegedly killing a peacemaker during a fight.
25-year-old Allison Wemimo-Samson allegedly killed Johnson Okoye, 34, while the deceased tried to settle a dispute between him and his landlord, Musa Mohammed.
Magistrate E. B. Daodu ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.
Samson is now facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder preferred against him by the police.
The defendant had lived at 17, Abibat Jumoke Street, Jakande Estate, Ajah, and a former tenant to Musa Muhammed before he vacated a room apartment he rented from the landlord sometime in September 2011, and promised to come back for part of his money since his tenancy did not expire at the time he left, Vanguard reports.
Corporal Cyracuis Osuji, the prosecutor told the court that Samson had gone to meet his former landlord on September 30 to demand the refund, in the process a fight ensued them and that was when the deceased stepped in to settle them.
After the deceased had made peace, he was attacked by Samson and his brother, who is now on the run.
The deceased slumped and died right after he reported the attack to the police.
The defendant’s plea was rejected.
