ABUJA, Nigeria – In a tragic turn of events, Ismaila Yushau Maihanchi, the member-elect for the Jalingo, Yorro, Zing constituency in Taraba State, passed away in the early hours of Saturday, APril 22, 2023 in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesperson, Andeta’rang Irammae, confirmed the news, stating, “Shortly after the election, the member-elect fell sick and has been receiving medical treatment in Abuja.” Irammae described Maihanchi’s death as a rude shock to the party and emphasized that he will be missed by both the party and the people of the state at large.
The acting chairman of the PDP, Abubakar Bawa, also lamented the loss, calling it a “big blow to the PDP family in the state and the country at large.”
A family source, who spoke with the press, confirmed that Maihanchi’s health declined shortly after he was declared the winner of the just-concluded election. The source added that funeral arrangements would be announced later.
Maihanchi, who contested the National Assembly election on the platform of the PDP, won by a landslide, defeating opponents from the All Progressives Congress (APC), the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
