ENUGU,  Nigeria — A pall of gloom has descended over the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, following the shocking news of the death of a final-year student, Mbah Ezinne.

She was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her room on Sunday, August 13, 2023.

Ezinne, a bright student from the Department of Anatomy, was popularly known for her warm and friendly demeanor.

Besides her academic excellence, she was also an active and cherished church community member.

Alarm bells began ringing when Ezinne failed to respond to multiple phone calls after the Sunday church service.

Her continuous unreachability aroused concern among friends and family members who found it unusual given her social nature.

Driven by increasing concern and anxiety, her brother went to her residence, where he was met with a horrifying scene.

Through a window, he observed Ezinne and a male friend, identified as a course mate, lying motionless on the floor.

Residents counseled involving the police before making any further moves.

Both individuals were immediately transported to a nearby hospital upon the authorities’ arrival.

Regrettably, by the time they reached the medical facility, Ezinne was declared dead.

Her male friend remains in critical condition and is receiving medical attention.

The cause of their condition remains unclear, and a full investigation is underway.

This tragic incident has left many in the community grappling with shock and grief, with many students and church members offering their condolences and support to Ezinne’s family.

The university is expected to provide counseling services for students affected by this sudden tragedy.

As the investigation unfolds, many hope for clarity and justice after such a heart-wrenching loss.

A grim scene unfolded on Friday, August 11, 2023, on the Ugwogo-Neke-Ikem road straddling Enugu East and Isi-Uzo local government areas in Enugu state.

Suspected kidnappers reportedly killed two people, with several others kidnapped and unknown whereabouts.

Eyewitnesses recount the horror that took place between 7:30 and 8 pm.

The attackers swooped down on unsuspecting travelers, indiscriminately firing at incoming vehicles.

One vehicle was targeted, resulting in two deaths, before the assailants proceeded to commandeer another vehicle, kidnapping its occupants.

“Chief Cyril Mbah from Neke Odenigbo-Nike was tragically gunned down by the suspected kidnappers near the Neke Odenigbo junction,” an eyewitness recounted.

“Caught in the crossfire while trying to get home with his daughter, he was fatally shot. Miraculously, his daughter remained unharmed.”

The violent spree didn’t stop there. The attackers intercepted another vehicle, firing shots that punctured its tires.

With the vehicle immobilized, they kidnapped the driver and other passengers. The destination of these kidnappers, along with the fate of their victims, remains shrouded in mystery.

The escalating violence and brazen attacks raise serious security concerns for residents and travelers in the region.

Upon reaching out for an official statement, the Enugu Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, said he would verify the incident.

The community and, indeed, the nation await further updates and fervently hope for the safe return of the abducted individuals.
