TARABA, Nigeria — Unknown gunmen abducted Boyi Manja, the caretaker committee chairman of Takum Local Government Council in Taraba State, and killed his police orderly in a brazen attack on Sunday, May 7, 2023.
The incident occurred along the Wukari/Takum road as Manja was traveling with his driver and orderly.
Pius Bulus Gauva, the leader of Takum Local Government Legislative Council, confirmed the incident, expressing his shock and dismay.
“We received the news with rude shock. My caretaker committee chairman has been kidnapped, his police orderly was also killed during the incident.”
A source from the council provided further details about the circumstances of the attack. According to the source, the gunmen struck while the council chairman was traveling with his driver and orderly.
Abdullahi Usman, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, for Taraba State, also confirmed the abduction. However, he could not provide the full details at the time of reporting. “It is true that the council caretaker chairman has been abducted,” Usman said.
The PPRO mentioned that the command had reached out to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Takum for more information and promised to update the press as soon as the details of the attack are made available to the command.
The abduction of Boyi Manja and the killing of his orderly has raised concerns over the security situation in Taraba State, with residents and officials alike anxiously awaiting updates and praying for the safe return of the council chairman.
