ONITSHA, Nigeria – A devastating fire broke out on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Ifejika Street, near Sokoto Road, Onitsha, Anambra State, destroying goods worth billions of naira.
Traders watched helplessly as their stock went up in flames, with the fire quickly spreading across the area.
The Anambra State Fire Service responded promptly, with four firefighting trucks deployed to the scene.
Firefighters, supported by various sister agencies and members of the public, worked tirelessly to contain the blaze. Despite their efforts, the extent of the damage remains severe.
A distress call was received at approximately 6:20 am, prompting the immediate dispatch of fire crews to the location.
Eyewitnesses have shared videos on social media, showing the widespread destruction, with some reports suggesting that nearby residential buildings and warehouses in the Onitsha Main Market area were also affected.
