MAIDUGIRI, Nigeria – A high-ranking Commander of Boko Haram, known as Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād, Khaid Malam Ali, and his lieutenant Bunu Umar, have surrendered to the troops of Operation Hadin Kai in the North East region of Borno State.
Sources reported that Ali and his fighters were dislodged by the Islamic State’s West Africa Province, ISWAP, after the terrorist group coordinated a raid on Boko Haram’s hideouts in Bula Alhaji Garwaye on the fringes of the Sambisa forest near Bama LGA on July 5, 2023.
Last week, ISWAP reportedly killed numerous Boko Haram fighters, including their women and children.
On Sunday, July 9, 2023, sources informed journalists that “Ali, who was a commander of the terrorists in Sabil Huda and Njumia, laid down his arms due to the fear of battlefield elimination.”
The surrender of these high-ranking Boko Haram members is seen as a significant development in the ongoing fight against terrorism in Nigeria’s North East region.
