ABUJA, Nigeria – President-elect Bola Tinubu, alongside his wife Remi, arrived back in Nigeria on Monday afternoon at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
This marks the end of their 32-day visit to France and the beginning of preparations for Tinubu’s presidential inauguration on May 29, 2023.
Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima and several governors affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) were present at the airport to welcome Tinubu back to Nigeria.
In addition, a large crowd of friends, family, and party supporters gathered at the airport since 10 am, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the President-elect.
The aircraft carrying the Tinubus touched down at 4:30 pm, slightly more than two hours behind schedule. Despite the delay, the atmosphere was electric as well-wishers and supporters cheered and celebrated the imminent new chapter for Nigeria.
Tinubu, a former Lagos state governor, was declared the winner of the February 25 poll and subsequently named President-Elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC).
His victory is facing challenges by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
