ABUJA, Nigeria – Pledging to uphold the faith of the Nigerian people, President-elect Bola Tinubu vowed not to disappoint as he was bestowed with the National Honour of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic, GCFR, at the State House on Thursday, May 25, 2023.
The honor was conferred upon him by the outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari in a ceremony that symbolizes the transfer of power and responsibility.
“This honour is a testament to the trust of our great nation. I understand the magnitude of the expectations, and I promise not to disappoint Nigerians,” said Tinubu, the former Lagos State governor, during his acceptance speech.
He reiterated his commitment to improving the country and acknowledged that Nigerians deserved a brighter future.
Tinubu is set to become the 16th recipient of the prestigious GCFR Honour, following the path of esteemed leaders including Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, and Goodluck Jonathan.
This honour underlines the country’s faith in him to take the reins and guide Nigeria toward a prosperous future.
The President-elect expressed appreciation for the guidance of his predecessor and assured that his administration would continue to seek advice from President Buhari when necessary.
“President Buhari’s wisdom and experience are invaluable assets to our nation. We will continue to reach out for his counsel whenever the need arises,” Tinubu stated, highlighting the spirit of continuity and collaboration that will mark his administration.
The investiture ceremony also saw the conferral of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON, on Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima by President Buhari.
As the ceremony came to an end, the promise of a brighter Nigeria echoed through the halls of the State House.
