Tinubu And Osinbajo ‘Must Leave APC’ – Afenifere Leader

Must read

Ayo Adebanjo, an elder statesman and Afenifere Leader, has challenged the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to pull out of the APC having been “used and dumped” by the party and President Muhammadu Buhari, whom they helped into power.

In an exclusive interview with Sunday Telegraph on Sunday, April 8, 2018, Adebanjo said since President Buhari has failed to fulfill all his pre-election promises to the South-West, who were moved to vote for the APC and the President, the most auspicious thing to do for Tinubu was to pull out from the government.

“What can we say other than for the same Tinubu, who took us there to take us out? Has he asked the Vice President to resign? I don’t look favourably at Tinubu for still keeping the ACN into the APC. What have we got out of it? The fact that he is sidelined is known. What could be keeping him there? A party which he helped to put into office is now doing things against its own people. What a world?”

Asked whether Tinubu was misled into the merger that culminated in the emergence of APC, he said: “No. No. No. I won’t agree with that. Tinubu knew so much and we told him enough. He only thought he could teach his grandfather to suck-egg. Don’t say he was ignorant at all.

“I believe Tinubu has an interest that is not known to us at all, to think that Buhari can help which he will never do. That is why I quarrelled with Tinubu that he should open his eyes and put our liberty in the hands of Buhari.”

Asked his thoughts on the 2019 elections, Adebanjo said: “I’m not looking forward to 2019, under this arrangement. I am a lone ranger in this regard; even within my party, they know me. They have their reasons, but my own reason is that the government of the day will rig elections if they are still there. If they promise they are going to change things, the moment they get there, it is zero as we have heard in the past.”

He said the President does not keep his words. “Look at President Muhammadu Buhari, who has been promising restructuring since 2007. If you will recollect, Afenifere supported Buhari in 2007 on the premise that he was going to restructure the country. In 2014, he came with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and made the same promise but the moment he got the presidency, he has changed. I am too old now to be lured into an election under the premise that you will do a restructuring. If you believe in it, do it now,” he said.
