Tinubu Intervenes In The Battle Between Abiru And Obasa For Lagos Speaker

The battle for who becomes the speaker of the Lagos state house of assembly has taken a different turn with the National leader of the party reportedly Bola Ahmed Tinubu deciding to wade into the issue.

From a total o six candidates for the position, the list has been streamlined to two; the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, Rotimi Abiru and the House Committee Chairman on Budget and Appropriation, Mudashiru Obasa.

The eight assembly in the state which was supposed to be inaugurated on Thursday 4th June 2015 has now been moved to Monday 8th June 2015 and the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu decided to intervene  as all efforts aimed at resolving the issue has proved abortive.

A source close to Tinubu camp said that the national leader received reports of bribery and arm-twisting by a self-acclaimed king maker and lawmaker in the House, who is allegedly fronting for Obasa.

“He is not happy with the reports at all, and feared that if the situation is not carefully managed, it will plunge the House into a big crisis. Asiwaju has told them to come and meet him as soon as he is back,”

The out-outgoing speaker Adeyemi Ikuforiji had earlier made effort to resolve the issue but there are indications that he and his deputy Taiwo Kolawole  are divided on who becomes the next speaker with Kolawole preferring Obasa while Ikuforiji felt that Abiru was the better choice
