ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced its consideration for the production of national identity cards specifically for senior citizens of the country.
The initiative will be carried out through a collaboration between the National Senior Citizens Centre, NSCC, and the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC.
According to an invitation sent out on Monday, June 26, 2023, by the NSCC, there will be a round-table meeting involving banks and related institutions to discuss the production of the identity cards for senior citizens.
The meeting is scheduled for June 27, 2023, in Abuja.
The initiative aims to streamline services and provide a seamless process for the elderly in accessing various facilities and services.
Through the identity cards, older persons may find it easier to avail themselves of specific benefits and services that are designated for their age group.
This move is seen as a step towards recognizing the role of senior citizens in the society and making their lives more comfortable by facilitating easy access to essential services.
Further details regarding the eligibility criteria for the identity cards and the range of benefits and services accessible with the card are expected to be discussed during the round-table meeting.
