ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Godswill Akpabio and Tajudeen Abbas on their election as Senate President and Speaker of the 10th National Assembly, respectively.
Tinubu released a statement on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, expressing his satisfaction with the election outcomes and advising the newly elected leaders on the heavy responsibility their positions hold.
The President also assured of his readiness to work transparently with the National Assembly.

“I heartily congratulate them and also rejoice with the new Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau and House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu for their well-deserved victories,” Tinubu’s statement read in part.
Tinubu reminded the leaders of the significant responsibility their roles carry, expressing faith that they would “justify the confidence reposed in you by your members and many Nigerians.”
The President further stated, “We have all been called upon and accepted the responsibility to diligently and faithfully serve our fatherland with our oath. It is time to get on and move swiftly with the governance business in Nigeria’s service.”
Tinubu emphasized the expectations of Nigerians from their distinguished senators and honorable members, saying that they are expected to make laws and oversee duties that will enhance government performance and improve their quality of life.
Highlighting the inevitability of disagreements, he assured that these disagreements would not stem from ill will or intent to diminish the institution of the National Assembly or any individual member.
He further expressed the expectations of Nigerians in terms of economic relief and security enhancement, and the urgency with which these issues needed to be addressed.
The President ended his statement with a call to unity, expressing his readiness to partner with the 10th National Assembly for the progress of the nation, and his expectation of them to work in harmony for the best interest of the country.
