The Times’ 100 Gala for the 100 most influential people in the world was held at the Lincoln Centre in New York on Tuesday, April 21, 2015.
Times’ 100 most influential people list which had the names of several notable Nigerians including, the leader of deadly terrorist group, Abubakar Shekau alongside the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, Oby Ezekwesili, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie amongst others.
At the Gala, Shekau, as expected, was visibly absent among the guests. The question, is, if he had applied for a visa, would his application have been granted considering his track record of terrorism? His recognition as one of the most influential people in the world caused a stir amongst Nigerians who found themselves wondering what kind of influence the Times magazine were promoting.
General Buhari, Nigeria’s President-elect was also visibly absent. although Oby Ezekwesili was present and besought the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, to help rescue the Chibok Girls.
