Must read

LAGOS, Nigeria — TikTok has released its Q2 2024 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, revealing that the platform removed over 2.1 million videos in Nigeria during the reporting period as part of its ongoing efforts to foster a safe and positive environment for users.

The report showcases TikTok’s commitment to transparency in content moderation, shedding light on the platform’s proactive approach to managing harmful content.

The videos removed represent less than 1% of the total uploaded in Nigeria, according to the report, as TikTok continues to strengthen its content moderation systems in one of its growing markets.

Notably, 99.1% of the removed videos were taken down proactively before they were flagged by users, with 90.7% removed within 24 hours of being posted.

Proactive Content Moderation

The report highlights TikTok’s focus on staying ahead of harmful content. By leveraging advanced technologies, the platform has been able to detect and remove content that violates its guidelines more efficiently than ever.

In June 2024 alone, TikTok removed over 178 million videos globally, with 144 million of those removals being automated.

These efforts have significantly reduced the burden on human moderators, minimising their exposure to potentially harmful material.

Globally, TikTok has achieved a proactive detection rate of 98.2%, demonstrating the platform’s capacity to address violative content before it reaches users.

In Nigeria, this level of efficiency ensures a safer user experience, particularly given the volume of daily uploads and the platform’s diverse user base.

Commitment to User Safety

TikTok’s latest efforts underline its commitment to safeguarding its community while maintaining transparency.

By investing in cutting-edge moderation technologies, the platform continues to prioritize user safety across Nigeria and around the world.

As TikTok’s popularity grows, the platform’s approach to content moderation—both through automation and human review—helps ensure that violative content is addressed promptly, creating a more secure environment for users to connect and share content.
