Some hoodlums have invaded the Ketu Ikosi area of Lagos and have killed a security guard attached to the Bello Folawiyo Government Reserved Area identified as Mr. Odion Aimeyekagbon an indigene of Edo state.
It was learnt that a land grabber known as Enibalomo, allegedly directed the assailants to attack Aimeyekagbon, who was a staff with Real Striker Security Company.
However, things turned sour when the guard and his associate Zaka Ajeh from Benue state requested for a gate pass from Enibalomo before he would be allowed to pass through the estate gate.
According to Punch, it was learnt that Enibalomo is a nephew to one of the Lagos monarchs and it was reported that on September 11, 2014, at about 6pm he was said to be on his way back from a hotel when the security officials stopped him.
Following the request of the security officials, Enibalomo angrily put a call to the thugs who eventually carried out the attack on the security guard.
However, it was gathered that the assailants were still at large as they were nowhere to be seen after stabbing Aimeyekagbon and smashing his head on an iron pillar.
According to sources, the security guard died at the pool of his own blood after the attack while his colleague, Ajeh sustained severe injuries and managed to escape
It was learnt also that Ajeh, was bedridden for three days before he was taken to his hometown where he is currently receiving proper medical attention.
While speaking about the death, Aimeyekagbon’s brother, Osas Aimeyekagbon, expressed with heavy heart the terrible nature of his brother’s murder and the pains the death has caused the family. He appealed to the right authorities to ensure that justice takes its place concerning the gruesome murder of his late brother. He disclosed that they have been restricted by the police from seeing their brother’s remains which was deposited at the mortuary.
He said, “It is unfortunate that my brother died violently in the hand of miscreants. His killer must be made to face the law irrespective of his influence because this is a huge loss. The painful part is that we have not been able to see his corpse. The police only showed us the pictures of the mutilated and bloody corpse taken at the scene of crime. When we demanded that they should take us to the mortuary at Ikorodu where the corpse was deposited, the IPO in charge of the case refused. He insisted that we give him N5,000 before we could see the corpse of our murdered brother.
“I learnt that the leader of the murderers is a well known man in the community. Those area boys stabbed him and hit his head on an iron pillar. The police are telling us that they want the man to report himself to the station.
“Yes, our brother is dead, he cannot be brought back to life, but we do not want this man to just go free without paying for the innocent blood he shed. I want Nigerians to help us out because from all indications, the police want to sweep this murder under the carpet.”
Speaking concerning the sad event, the acting chairman of the estate’s Community Development Association, Reverend Bode Oresajo, said he was aware of the sad occurrence and that authorities including the police force have been duly alerted also.
He said, “I was called from the church that day. The crime was reported at the Ketu Police Station. We also wrote a letter to the governor and copied the chairman, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA. The chairman visited the estate and promised to do something about the incident, but we have not seen any meaningful development.”
On the other hand, the Human Resources Manager of the Real Striker, Mr. Kolawole Dawodu, expressed disappointment on the way the police officials were going about the case.
He said, “We are expecting that the man who led the gang would have been arrested. The case was transferred from Ketu to Area H Command, Ogudu. Now, it is being handled in SCID, Yaba. The police promised to effect arrest within two weeks, but no arrest has been made. This is a case of a man who was murdered in cold blood while he was on his line of duty. The other official has been taken to his town for proper treatment.”
As at the time of the report, the police Lagos State police spokesperson, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, had nothing to say yet.
