As the amount of money to be earned by Nigerian lawmakers continue to generate heated arguments and opinions from concerned Nigeriansm, The Trent has reliably unearthed the real amount to be taken home by members of the Upper Chamber.
According to the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), each senator is to earn N2,026,400.00 as annual basic salary, which amounts to a monthly basic salary of N168, 866.70.
Asides the basic salary, a senator is entitled to the following allowances annually:
Motor Vehicle Fuelling and Maintenance – N1,519,800.00;
Personal Assistant – N506,600.00,
Domestic Staff – N1,519,800.00;
Entertainment – N607,920.00;
Utilities – N607,920.00;
Newspapers/Periodicals – N303,960.00,
Wardrobe – N506,600.00;
House Maintenance – N101,320.00 and
Constituency allowance – N5,066,000.00
With the above breakdown, each senator is entitled to N12,766,320.00 annually and N1,063,860.00 monthly.
RMAFC availed that this has been the amount earned by the senators since 2007.
