You’re looking at a man who was chained up and left starving inside a wooden shack – by his wife.

Pablo Tamariz Coraquillo, 86, was allegedly treated like a prisoner for around two years in the small village of Huauyan, Peru.

Officials acted on rumours and found him in a ‘weak and bewildered’ state.

Villager Viviano Villareal Corral, 56, said: ‘We knew he was there but his wife told us it was for his own good.

‘She said he kept trying to run away and she decided the best way to keep him at home was to tie him up.

Pic shows: Ignacio Pablo Tamariz Coraquillo was chained up in a wooden shack and left there for two years.nnAn OAP has been rescued after his nagging wife chained him up in a wooden shack and left him there for two years.nnIgnacio Pablo Tamariz Coraquillo, 86, was found starving and smelly in the small village of Huauyan in western Peru after local officials heard rumours about "the man in chains."nnVillager Viviano Villareal Corral, 56, said: "We knew he was there but his wife told us it was for his own good.nn"She said he kept trying to run away and she decided the best way to keep him at home was to tie him up.nn"But we didn¿t realise that he was there all the time.nn¿We just thought it was now and then.nn"She is quite a demanding woman and often moans about him to my wife who works with her.nn"Their children left along time ago and now it¿s just the two of them."nnAnother villager, Ananias Esquivel Banda, 45, added: "Sometimes I felt sorry for him so would go and give him bits of food.nn"Although the wife works they are very poor and I think she eats most of the food."nnThe pensioner was found after locals tipped off officials.nnA spokesman for the local region said: "When we heard about the man in chains we sent a tram down to investigate and discovered him in a shack on the outskirts of the village.nn"He was very weak and slightly bewildered to see us.nn"He has now bee taken to hospital and we are trying to find some social housing for him."nnWife Epifania Trejo Rios, 77, said: "If he hadn¿t tried to run away then this would never have happened.nn"I did it for his own good."nn(ends)  nn
